Idrica's boarding school No 1 was founded in 1942, and starting in October 1961,
it became an institution for education and upbringing of children with developmental
abnormalities and learning disabilities.
The school is located in the countryside not far from Russia's borders with Latvia and Belarus,
180 kilometers (about 110 miles) away from Psokv, the province's major city.
It is also 10 kilometers (6.3 miles) away from the highway and railway between Moscow and Riga.
The foster home is situated by a small lake in a woody area rich in pine trees.
It admits orphaned children and children left without guardianship of parents with unstable health.
Currently, there are 97 children aged 7 to 18.
